What is an Electrical Certificate of Compliance (CoC)?
An Electrical Certificate of Compliance (CoC) is a legal document issued after a professional electrical inspection confirms that the installation complies with SANS 10142 wiring standards. A valid CoC is required when selling or transferring a property in South Africa.
When do I need a CoC?
A CoC is typically required when selling or transferring a property, when ownership changes, or when requested by an attorney, estate agent, or insurance provider. Even when not legally required, a CoC provides peace of mind that the electrical installation meets current safety standards.
Does the listed CoC price include the certificate automatically?
Yes. If the electrical installation is compliant at the time of inspection, the Certificate of Compliance is issued as part of the inspection at no additional charge. If faults are identified, a detailed inspection report is provided along with a quote for the required repairs. Should TNDK Industries complete the repairs, the retest and CoC issuance are included without an additional inspection fee. If repairs are completed by another contractor or the homeowner, a new inspection is required before a CoC can be issued.
What happens if faults are found during the inspection?
If faults are identified, the installation is deemed non-compliant and a CoC cannot be issued until the issues are resolved. We provide a clear inspection report outlining the faults, as well as a quotation for the required corrective work. Once repairs are completed and the installation passes retesting, the CoC is issued.
Are CoC inspection fees refundable?
No. CoC inspection fees are non-refundable, as they cover professional inspection time, testing, reporting, and administrative costs regardless of whether the installation passes or fails.
How long does a CoC inspection take?
Most residential CoC inspections take approximately two to three hours. The exact duration depends on the size of the property, the number of distribution boards, and the complexity of the electrical installation.
Why are homes with solar, inverters, or generators priced differently?
Properties fitted with solar systems, inverters, batteries, or generators require additional compliance checks and testing in accordance with SANS 10142. These systems increase the complexity and duration of the inspection, which is why they are priced separately from standard residential inspections.
